Danza Balfolk: individual recognition of the collective

place Chamberí- Canal Dance Center
date Friday, 26 October
hour of 18:30 a 21:00 hours

description
The balfolk is a dance that identifies us with the root and that connects us with the strength of the collective. Dance understood as a celebration of life, as a source of history that gives us identity. Dance together with music for the encounter with oneself, with the group, for joint creation. They are group and couple dances designed for the enjoyment of recognizing ourselves alive in a body that beats to the rhythm of the usual sounds.

Sonia Luchena Gigante. I met dance at 4 years when I started my Spanish classical ballet studies. After a long career in this marked discipline, I began a search that led me 11 years to know the balfolk in European festivals. I was trapped in the authenticity of the encounter in the dance and the resonance with sounds that made all the sense to me. Since then, I teach workshops for adults and children, at festivals, colleges, museums, plazas… I am part of the organizing team of Fascinating, a festival dedicated to the diffusion of the balfolk in Spain, and I combine this passion with others, how are my work as an actress and trainer.

Casino wheel, salsa!

place Chamberí- Canal Dance Center
date Friday, 26 October
hour of 18:30 a 21:00 hours

description
The casino wheel was born in Cuba in the decade of the 50. Its name is due to the fact that it arose and was danced for the first time in the Club Casino Deportivo of this country. The wheel is made up of pairs of dancers in an undetermined number who perform dance figures combined with each other. As the wheel is made up of several couples, it is necessary to name the dance figures in order for them to be understood by all. Some names of the figures are very funny, making learning very entertaining and easy.

Come dance with us salsa and learn basic movement patterns typical of this beautiful and elegant style, acquiring the basic tools to get out on the track without inhibitions.

Gustavo Ayala: I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and I've been dancing salsa for years. What I like most about dancing is how nice and fun it is to meet new people. The diversity of friendships and relationships that arise thanks to the dance I think that no other hobby can match. I think that, of the dance styles I know, the sauce, especially the casino wheel, is the king of diversity. See children, young boys, adults and even grandparents dancing and sharing together as friends is something wonderful and indescribable. The dance brought a lot of joy to my life and the casino wheel a family of friends that does not stop growing.
