A coproduction by the Teatro Real together with the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville

Based on Beaumarchais’ brilliant play, the opera’s dynamic, crazy plot conceals something much more interesting than appears on the face of it. The story contrasts two generations in their desires, ambitions and their ways of seeing the world. Rossini shows his characters exactly as they are with the unique way he uses the most powerful resource for explaining
any real situation: irony. The irony is not only in the text – it’s also in the music, which includes great comical touches.
