This essential work of bel canto which, together with Roberto Devereux and Anna Bolena, completes the trilogy of the Tudor queens, is premiered at the Real with a new production by David McVicar. Voices starring in the dramatic confrontation between Mary Stuart and her executioner Elizabeth I include Lisette Oropesa, Yolanda Auyanet, Ismael Jordi and Aigul Akhmetshina.

La confrontación entre las protagonistas de Maria Stuarda fue más allá del libreto (y la historia): las dos cantantes protagonistas en el estreno de la ópera terminaron por enemistarse de tal forma que se dice que tras el telón saltaban las chispas entre ellas. Joaquín Turina, el gran conocedor de la historia de la ópera en general y del Teatro Real en particular, contará en una divertida charla las anécdotas y chascarrillos más destacados sobre las luchas entre algunas de las divas de ópera de todos los tiempos.
