The Teatro Real consolidates its undisputed global leadership by achieving a historic milestone: four nominations to the International Opera Awards. Having been recognised as the World’s Best Theatre in 2021 and awarded the Sustainability Prize last year, this new quadruple nomination reaffirms our unwavering commitment to excellence. Being shortlisted in such exceptional categories demonstrates our ability to combine the highest artistic quality with staging innovation and a profound social impact. In addition to our four nominations, the Teatro Real is delighted to celebrate the recognition at the 2026 International Opera Awards of outstanding artists with close ties to our theatre.

We are enormously proud of the nominations of exceptional figures such as Aigul Akhmetshina, Lisette Oropesa, Andreas Schager, Dave Monaco, Saioa Hernández, Sara Blanch, Clay Hilley and Georg Zeppenfeld, as well as creators of the calibre of Àlex Ollé. Their presence as finalists in this year’s awards reaffirms our institution’s commitment to offering the public, season after season, the most prominent and acclaimed talents from the world of opera.
