2 Delirios sobre Shakespeare

Alfredo Aracil

14 Jun, 16 - 18 Jun, 16

Musical conductor: José Ramón Encinar

Is Prospero really the wise and generous elder in The Tempest who governs the island where he has been shipwrecked with his daughter Miranda? And does Juliet really die together with her lover Romeo? Not in the case of "2 Deliriums from Shakespeare" , with a script by José Sanchís Sinisterra and music composed by Alfredo Aracil. For them Prospero was a weathered, infirm and blind man who also has powers over music that seems imaginary. Juliet, meanwhile, has failed to commit suicide and has lived thirty long years in her own crypt. With her memories and the act of listening as her only companions, Juliet remains in the dark, unable to leave.  Prospero: Scena and Juliet in the crypt are two monodramas performed by an actor and actress, respectively, alongside a vocal trio. The music is more than an ornament or scenic setting, in fact it is another  protagonist: for Prospero music is the manifestation of his powers and, when it is outside his control, the magic fades. For her part, Juliet only has the three dimensions of music - sounds, time and memory - as the backdrop for her life. Drama and wry humour combine in these two deliriums which  explore unexpected outcomes for two characters with whom we are familiar.
