In this exotic opera by Bizet, Juan Diego Flórez, the undisputed tenor among tenors, embodies Nadir, the fisherman who, blinded by love, sacrifices friendship for passion. The starring trio is completed with Patrizia Ciofi and Mariusz Kwiecien, who sing Leila and Zurga respectively, to deploy all the most moving lyricism, the skill to create memorable melodies and the evocative instrumentation of a Bizet already capable of creating a duet, “Au fond du temple Saint”, that anticipates the popularity achieved later with his immortal Carmen.
