Macbeth represents a milestone in Verdi’s career as a composer, fascinated as he was by Shakespeare’s play. Never before or after did he prepare an opening night so meticulously and few times has bel canto achieved such pinnacles of drama as in the duet between Macbeth and the perfidious Lady Macbeth following the murder in the first act. Such was the love that Verdi felt for this opera in which he achieved a masterful portrait of his tormented protagonists that, at the end of his life, he went back and revised a large part of the score for the Paris Opera. Another tragedy on power that Dmitri Tcherniakov interprets from a contemporary perspective and will enable us to enjoy the conducting of Teodor Currentzis.
