DateBased on a text by Charles Ferdinand Ramuz, Stravinsky composed this work in 1917, during his exile in Switzerland, when the First World War was at a decisive point. In it, a soldier on leave has to decide whether to sell his soul or not –represented by a violin–, in exchange for a magic book that will allow him to see the future and become a rich man. Around this story, certainly inspired by the myth of Faust, a fable is constructed which demonstrates our obsession for always wanting more in a society that has made us insatiable.
