Compañía Nacional de Danza

In this programme, the Spanish National Dance Company brings together three key moments in dance from the last history: George Balanchine’s Serenade, Jacopo Godani’s Echoes from the Restless Soul and William Forsythe’s The Second Detail. Serenade, danced to Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings, also has key significance for the company, as it was the first Balanchine piece to be added to its repertoire in 1983. In addition to this is Godani’s piece, which is based on Ravel’s piano triptych Gaspard de la nuit, consisting of a series of pas de deux, quartets and a highly virtuosic choral movement. The programme concludes with Forsythe’s The Second Detail, whose playful and extremely physical choreography plays with tempo, group dynamics and unconventional off-axis movement.
