Juan de Juan, dancing

Juan de Juan (Seville, 1979) is a dancer with an international profile combining depth, technique and strong expressiveness. He began his training at the age of seven with Juan Triana and Juana Amaya and extended his studies at the Royal Conservatory in Seville with teachers like Manolo Marín and Antonio Canales. He joined Canales’ company at the age of 16 and became the lead dancer in shows like Torero, Raíz and Romancero gitano. In 2001 he began his career as a solo artist and, since 2004, he has been directing his own company with shows like Al sur, Inquietudes and La voz del baile. He has performed at venues such as the City Center in New York, Tokyo Opera House, Sadler’s Wells in London and the National Theatre of Mexico and at festivals in Europe, Asia and America.

La Lupi, dancing

Susana Lupiáñez, La Lupi (Malaga, 1971), is a leading modern flamenco dancer and choreographer showing elegance, technical expertise and deep expressiveness. She trained in classical and Spanish dance at the Higher Conservatory of Dance in Málaga and began her career in Juan Maya Marote’s company in Madrid. In 1999 she founded her own company, with which she has created shows like RETOrno, Cartas a Pastora, Mudanza, La Paula, Lenguaje oculto and Épicus, presented on stages in Europe, America and Asia. She has worked with the Spanish National Ballet as a choreographer in Zaguán and with artists like Miguel Poveda in ArteSano Her dancing combines tradition, character and a contemporary view that consolidates her as an essential flamenco performer.

Founded in 1958 in Málaga by a group of enthusiasts led by Francisco Bejarano, Peña Juan Breva is one of the oldest clubs in Spain and one of the leading world flamenco organisations. Faithful to its founding principles – learning, preserving purity and teaching flamenco – it organises more than 130 annual activities, including studio sessions, shows, conferences, competitions and classes open to the public. It also houses a Museum of Flamenco Art with more than 5,000 unique pieces and the only documentation centre and library specialising in flamenco anywhere in the world, devoted to conservation, digitisation and publicity.
