El Choro, dancing
Antonio Molina, El Choro, (Huelva, 1985) is one of the most outstanding dancers of his generation, recognised for his powerful stage performances, his mastery of rhythm and his deep flamenco roots. He initially trained with his father and later with leading figures such as Javier Latorre, Rafael Campallo and Manolo Marín, before completing his studies at the Cristina Heeren Foundation in Seville. After winning the 2nd Huelva Young Flamenco Event in 1999, he began a career that has led him to work with figures like Israel Galván, Eva Yerbabuena, Javier Barón and Vicente Amigo. In 2016 he premiered his first show of his own, Aviso: bayles de jitanos, which saw him recognised as best emerging artist at the Jerez Festival. This was followed by Gelem (2018), directed by Manuel Liñán, and #SiDiosKiere (2022).
Paula Rodríguez, dancing
Paula Rodríguez (Santander, 1990) is a dancer who stands out for her elegance, technical precision and a deep connection with flamenco rhythms. She began her dance training at the age of four and, after laying a solid base in classical and Spanish dance, she moved to Madrid in 2007 to study at Amor de Dios with teachers like La Truco, María Juncal and Merche Esmeralda. She extended her education in Sevilla and Barcelona with leading figures like Juana Amaya, Rocío Molina and Eva Yerbabuena. Since 2015 she has formed part of the regular cast list at tablaos like Cardamomo, Las Carboneras and other Madrid venues. In 2021 she was presented with the Women’s Desplante Award at Las Minas International Singing Festival. As a creative force, she has directed shows like Mi Tarara, presented in Santander.
The City of Huelva Flamenco Festival, founded in 2016 to continue the historic Quitasueños Festival, has become established as one of the leading cultural events in southern Spain. Organised by Huelva City Council in cooperation with the Cajasol Foundation, it offers a top-class programme with established and emerging artists, including exhibitions, educational workshops, masterclasses, talks and chats and the Young Fandango event of La Orden flamenco club. The aim of the festival is to put Huelva on the Spanish and international flamenco map, paying particular attention to the fandango – the province’s typical flamenco palo, or style.
