Mitridate, composed by Antonio Porpora and based on the tragedy of the same name by Jean Racine, is premiered at the Teatro Real in a concert version, with the tenor Michael Spyres in the title role. Andrea Buccarella conducts Il Pomo d’Oro in a single performance.

Premiered at Teatro Capranica (Rome) on 7 january 1730.

This is an opera of intrigues and betrayals with a plot based on love and the political rivalry between King Mitridate and his sons Farnace and Sifare, who are both in love with Princess Aspasia.
