Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

14 Oct, 26 - 17 Oct, 27

Artistic Director
Alicia Graf Mack

Founded in New York in 1958 at the height of the civil rights movement, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is today a globally renowned cultural institution, designated a Cultural Ambassador to the World by the United States Congress in 2008. The company’s choreographic style, which blends modern dance, ballet, jazz and African and Caribbean traditions, combines to create a form of lyrical, athletic expression that knows no borders, although it is deeply rooted in the African American experience. Presenting two programmes: the first dominated by iconic choreography by its founder, and the second featuring recent creations by Medhi Walerski, Judith Jamison, Lar Lubovitch, Jamar Roberts, the company shows the beauty and resilience of the human spirit.
